Flavio Vittori showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kristian Oswald, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hertha 1969's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Zaccheo Andolina in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rune Jarstein saved Hertha 1969 from getting behind. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Wilhelm Nienhaus made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute of the match Italy got a corner. Hertha 1969's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sigfrido Auletta ran over to the corner to take the kick. Siricio Liotta was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Hertha 1969's Rune Jarstein proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Hertha 1969 from getting a goal against them. Italy's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Sigfrido Auletta in the 73rd minute. Sigfrido Auletta made a great header on Italy's corner, it was just that Hertha 1969's Rune Jarstein managed to reach the ball for a save. The audience was convinced that Gunter Waller's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Flavio Vittori was relentless in the 81st minute of the game.
