Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Costică Chiriloaie in the 27th minute of play. Costin Giugiuc showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lars Meesters in the 29th minute of the match. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Gijsbert ter Kruimer sped through A.C. Milan's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Costin Giugiuc. The crowd rose to their feet as Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Costin Giugiuc. That made the score 3-3 in the 61 minute of play. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Costică Chiriloaie in the 64th minute of play. A.C. Milan's Costică Chiriloaie got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Egbert Nijveldt hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Wim Wilmes hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. A.C. Milan's Costin Giugiuc proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save A.C. Milan from getting a goal against them. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The A.C. Milan fans cheered their team off the field, for while Netherlands had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
