In the 15th minute, Eric Oltean reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Arnout Reekers. The goal made the score 1-0. 19 minutes into the match, Atlético Nacional's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Teodoro Peio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Teodoro Peio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Egbert Nijveldt in the 22nd minute of the match. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Carlos Alberto Azevedo tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 26th minute of play forced Atlético Nacional's goalkeeper Teodoro Peio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnout Reekers was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Atlético Nacional's Baldomero Rodas was substituted for Alexsandro Mandrak. In the 75th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teodoro Peio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 80th minute, Carlos Alberto Azevedo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Berasko in the 84th minute of play. In the 88th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Teodoro Peio. The goal made the score 4-2. For all the effort they put into the match, the Netherlands players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Atlético Nacional.
