Udinese's goalkeeper Alvaro Rotili to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gabriel Ascaso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alexander Bottone, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 16 played minutes A.S. Udinese got a freekick which was hit by Dino Pozzoli. 20 minutes into the game, Jonathan Criado threw the ball into play from the sideline. A.S. Alvaro Rotili was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Ercole Fiorentino managed to get in a good position for a shot. A.S. Udinese's supporters rose to their feet, but Ercole Fiorentino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gabriel Ascaso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half Spain were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
