The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Theron Pujols kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Desmond Rowell kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Foster Rivers. That made the score 1-0 in the 11 minute of play. After 15 played minutes Khachatryan got a freekick which was hit by Jed Strickland. Khachatryan's Foster Rivers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Khachatryan from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Santos FC's Kris Marks got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Foster Rivers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Desmond Rowell in the 26th minute of play. Foster Rivers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hans Ladd in the 28th minute. A collision led to Khachatryan getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Terrance Norris hit a great ball. Jim Mitchell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Terrance Norris, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Dave Alford hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Kris Marks put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Foster Rivers. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jarrod Redd to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kris Marks in the 53rd minute of play forced Khachatryan's goalkeeper Foster Rivers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Santos FC's zone, Terrance Norris stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jim Mitchell came out of the goal and Terrance Norris tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Foster Rivers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kris Marks in the 64th minute of play. When Lenny MacDowell fell near the penalty area in the 65th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Khachatryan's protests and gave Lenny MacDowell a yellow card for diving instead. After 65 played minutes Khachatryan got a freekick which was hit by Lenny MacDowell. In the 71st match minute, Santos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hans Ladd to maneuver through the defense. In the 72nd minute, Jarrod Redd got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Jed Strickland managed to get in a good position for a shot. Khachatryan's supporters rose to their feet, but Jed Strickland was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jim Mitchell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jarrod Redd blasted a shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jim Mitchell having to make a save. 80 minutes into the match, Khachatryan's Jed Strickland sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim Mitchell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Terrance Norris got free with Jim Mitchell in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 89 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Desmond Rowell. If Jed Strickland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
