When Ernesto Giandomenico came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Manfredonia Calcio 1932 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Giandomenico couldn't finish the play. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Manfredonia Calcio 1932's goalkeeper Alfredo Torelli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Christian Buonanno fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manfredonia Calcio 1932's protests and gave Christian Buonanno a yellow card for diving instead. Christian Buonanno kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Manfredonia Calcio 1932's zone, Gijsbert ter Kruimer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Torelli came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 28th match minute, Manfredonia Calcio 1932 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arturo Borrelli to maneuver through the defense. Manfredonia Calcio 1932's Alfredo Torelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 29th minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Alessandro Del Piero came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Alfredo Torelli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 43rd minute Alessandro Del Piero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Christian Buonanno in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnout Reekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was the one to do the kick off. Manfredonia Calcio 1932's Alfredo Torelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 53rd minute of play. Alfredo Torelli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 56th minute of play. 57 minutes had been played when some careless play by Manfredonia Calcio 1932's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. After 62 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Egbert Nijveldt. Alfredo Torelli made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. 67 minutes in the game, Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Alfredo Torelli having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Alfredo Torelli threw himself towards the right post 67 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 68 minutes into the game, Gijsbert ter Kruimer lined in a short shot 0-2 behind a frustrated Alfredo Torelli. In the 72nd minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Manfredonia Calcio 1932's Dennis Di Federico was substituted for Arturo Borrelli. In the 75th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egbert Nijveldt to maneuver through the defense. 77 minutes into the match, Manfredonia Calcio 1932's goalkeeper Alfredo Torelli had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt. After 78 minutes Manfredonia Calcio 1932's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gijsbert ter Kruimer who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Gust Ennemans almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Manfredonia Calcio 1932's Alfredo Torelli did a great save. Antonio Melani replaced Florian Frezza. Alfredo Torelli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Netherlands's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
