But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anderson Paiva couldn't finish the play. Jude Monkhouse really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. 16 minutes into the match, Spain's goalkeeper Gabriel Ascaso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Anderson Paiva. The corner led Várzea F.C.'s Aloísio Secco to fire away a dangerous shot which Gabriel Ascaso despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Spain's Gabriel Ascaso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Spain from getting a goal against them. In the 22nd minute of the match Várzea F.C. got a corner. Spain's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Aloísio Secco ran over to the corner to take the kick. Várzea F.C.'s Aloísio Secco was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gabriel Ascaso in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Adria Bielsa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlos Augusto Quintal having to make a save. Carlos Augusto Quintal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Omar Toledo, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Spain's Gabriel Ascaso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anderson Paiva in the 35th minute of play. Carlos Augusto Quintal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adria Bielsa, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Carlos Augusto Quintal stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Omar Toledo's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Carlos Augusto Quintal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Omar Toledo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Omar Toledo in the 44th minute of play forced Várzea F.C.'s goalkeeper Carlos Augusto Quintal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 45 minutes into the match, Várzea F.C.'s Anderson Paiva sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gabriel Ascaso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 47th minute Anderson Paiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gabriel Ascaso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jude Monkhouse was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Várzea F.C. getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. Marcos Roberto hit a great ball. Gabriel Ascaso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anderson Paiva in the 52nd minute of play. Omar Toledo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Carlos Augusto Quintal made a huge save. Várzea F.C.'s Carlos Augusto Quintal proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save Várzea F.C. from getting a goal against them. With an all-out effort, Spain's Carlos Augusto Quintal threw himself towards the right post 64 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jon Cubero, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Carlos Augusto Quintal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Omar Toledo in the 67th minute of play. 71 minutes into the game, Omar Toledo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Carlos Augusto Quintal was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Várzea F.C. made a substitution. Dé Montenegro replaced Jude Monkhouse. Spain's Carles Cherro was substituted for Omar Toledo. Spain's Sergio Ruiz was substituted for Adria Bielsa. Spain made a substitution. Pau Herrero replaced David Aranda. In the 83rd match minute, Spain was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pau Herrero to maneuver through the defense. Spain's Carles Cherro got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gabriel Ascaso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anderson Paiva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 92 minutes into the match, Várzea F.C.'s goalkeeper Carlos Augusto Quintal had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Carles Cherro. In the 93rd minute, Vicente Merino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Várzea F.C. fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Spain were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
