In the 3rd match minute, Djurgårdens IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jakob Nordström to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 4th minute of play forced Djurgårdens IF's goalkeeper Yngve Fredriksson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Yngve Fredriksson made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. In the 12th minute of the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Yngve Fredriksson saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Marcus Botvidsson's late challenge caught a Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcus Botvidsson helped the player get up and apologised. In the 16th minute, Marcus Botvidsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bas Tuitert hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. In the 21st minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Wim Wilmes might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Yngve Fredriksson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wim Wilmes ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 26 minutes, David Eikelkamp managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but David Eikelkamp was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gust Ennemans hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. In the 31st match minute, Djurgårdens IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kennet Forsman to maneuver through the defense. Yngve Fredriksson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lars Meesters, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 33rd minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. Djurgårdens IF's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran over to the corner to take the kick. Yngve Fredriksson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 36th match minute, Djurgårdens IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hieronim Posadzki to maneuver through the defense. Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yngve Fredriksson having to interfere. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Karl-Åke Termander could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. 55 minutes into the game, Gijsbert ter Kruimer cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Yngve Fredriksson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Wim Wilmes struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Yngve Fredriksson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Yngve Fredriksson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 74th minute, 朱义岚 hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 80 minutes, Roy Lövskog mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Djurgårdens IF and the Netherlands players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Djurgårdens IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roy Lövskog didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 85th minute, Wim Wilmes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. There was no doubt that Netherlands were the better team. Netherlands's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
