An unexpectedly hard shot by Viriato Moura in the 21st minute of play forced Inter Milano's goalkeeper Isaac Fix to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felipe Barreto got free with Isaac Fix in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 28th minute, Felipe Barreto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Isaac Fix was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Isaac Fix showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caetano Moreira in the 32nd minute of the match. 33 minutes into the game, Felipe Barreto threw the ball into play from the sideline. Inter Milano's Diego Lombas quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Inter Milano's attentive Mariusz Mindykowski managed to snatch the ball when Rodolfo Miranda made a throw-in in the 35th minute of the game. In the 40thth minute of the game Viriato Moura who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Inter Milano's Isaac Fix was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Daniel Pimentel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 44th minute Viriato Moura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Isaac Fix saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Portugal defense, Kryspin Falk kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wilson Amorim. The Portugal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wilson Amorim should have stopped the shot. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Viriato Moura to make the kick off. Portugal's Felipe Barreto quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Teofil Kornasiewicz, made in the 51st minute of the game. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Isaac Fix showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viriato Moura, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. A sloppy throw-in by Rodolfo Miranda in the 61st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Inter Milano's Mariusz Mindykowski. Daniel Pimentel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
