Spectators: 41 (Terracing: 32, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) FORMIGÃO DE BRAGA's Jardel Meireles started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aírton Pires in the 3rd minute of play. Mazinho Barreto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Mazinho Barreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 11th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diego Di Toma got free with Arnout Reekers in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Diego Di Toma in the 25th minute. Jardel Meireles took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. A collision led to FORMIGÃO DE BRAGA getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Jardel Meireles hit a great ball. Mazinho Barreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 36th minute of play. Jardel Meireles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gijsbert ter Kruimer stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Mazinho Barreto in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 57 minutes, Gustaaf Groeneveldt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Gustaaf Groeneveldt came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Netherlands fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gustaaf Groeneveldt couldn't finish the play. Gijsbert ter Kruimer had several of the FORMIGÃO DE BRAGA's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 66 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score and a disappointed Mazinho Barreto as he didn't even see the shot coming. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jardel Meireles in the 72nd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to FORMIGÃO DE BRAGA getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Modesto Smitmans hit a great ball. Mazinho Barreto made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. In the 79th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mazinho Barreto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hulk Orange in the 82nd minute of play. Wim Wilmes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Gustaaf Groeneveldt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The FORMIGÃO DE BRAGA support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
