The Monks in Robes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kristen Gulskov should have stopped the shot. Wim Wilmes in the 23rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Kristen Gulskov, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Ree in the 27th minute of the match. Monks in Robes's Kristen Gulskov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wim Wilmes in the 33rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Axel Ree in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnout Reekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Kristen Gulskov in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by Monks in Robes's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Egbert Nijveldt almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Monks in Robes's Kristen Gulskov did a great save. In the 39th minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. Monks in Robes's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Wim Wilmes almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Monks in Robes's Kristen Gulskov did a great save. After 44 played minutes Monks in Robes got a freekick which was hit by Albinus Alking. After 46 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Bas Tuitert. When Fidel Havier came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Monks in Robes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fidel Havier couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Ree, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute.
