Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ingvar Gregersson in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Casper Claes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Edward Vanderstraeten might have been able to make a better finish in the 10th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rasmus Sigman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edward Vanderstraeten ran back to his position shaking his head. 10 minutes into the match, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rasmus Sigman narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Newcastle United F.C.'s Rasmus Sigman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edward Vanderstraeten in the 31st minute of play. After a rather tough play, Belgium's Lenny Clocheret got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 35 minutes into the game, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rasmus Sigman made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. 38 minutes into the match, Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ingvar Gregersson. Edward Vanderstraeten's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rasmus Sigman read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. Rasmus Sigman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. 44 minutes into the match, Edward Vanderstraeten notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Newcastle United F.C.'s Rasmus Sigman. Rasmus Sigman was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ingvar Gregersson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Newcastle United F.C.'s David Söderlund got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Newcastle United F.C.'s Rasmus Sigman proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Newcastle United F.C. from getting a goal against them. Thanks to some nice moves Edward Vanderstraeten could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Rasmus Sigman however easily saved by the left post. After 57 minutes Newcastle United F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edward Vanderstraeten who took care of the corner kick. Rikard Bergdal recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edward Vanderstraeten did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-4 to the left of a surprised Rasmus Sigman 73 minutes into the match. Newcastle United F.C.'s Eric Lundström was substituted for David Söderlund. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joakim Vennerlund in the 82nd minute of play forced Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Casper Claes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ingvar Gregersson in the 84th minute of the match. 85 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Rikard Bergdal came free, but Casper Claes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 89 minutes into the match, Newcastle United F.C.'s goalkeeper Rasmus Sigman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edward Vanderstraeten. The corner led Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten to fire away a dangerous shot which Rasmus Sigman despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The attack was good, but when Simon Sabbe in the 91st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. The supporters of Newcastle United F.C. booed when Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Sabbe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Belgium's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
