Germany's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Rubén Martínez scored to the left of an out of position Tommy Kahn, making the score, 2-0. Germany's Tommy Kahn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubén Martínez in the 24th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Rubén Martínez kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Tommy Kahn. That made the score 3-0 in the 28 minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

After some careless play in the Germany defense, Rubén Martínez kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tommy Kahn. The Germany fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tommy Kahn should have stopped the shot. Tommy Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rubén Martínez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Colo-Colo's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Honorio Droguett in the 60th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Germany's goalie and right to Cheito Ramírez. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Germany's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Germany's Tommy Kahn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Julio Almeida in the 61st minute of play. Tommy Kahn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 78th minute, Rubén Martínez ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tommy Kahn was frozen by the shot and now it was 8-0. When Carlitos Caszely came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the Colo-Colo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlitos Caszely couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Colo-Colo getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Cheito Ramírez hit a great ball. Germany's Tommy Kahn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubén Martínez in the 88th minute of play. Reinaldo Christie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Tommy Kahn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Colo-Colo walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
