In the 13thth minute of the game Gijsbert ter Kruimer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Eric Soned was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 14 played minutes Étoile Sportive Du Sahel got a freekick which was hit by Moise Dordea. In the 17th minute, Egbert Nijveldt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Carlo Ancelotti scored 1-0 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Arnout Reekers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Kees Mooiweer got a throw-in 31 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Wim Wilmes. Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Soned having to interfere. In the 35th minute, Yu Kun Yan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eric Soned took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Juninho Pernambucano got a free kick in the 38th minute. Eric Soned showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 40th minute of the match. In the 47th minute, Juninho Pernambucano made a precise shot to the right of Arnout Reekers. Netherlands's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

In the 55th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eric Soned saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 59th minute Carlo Ancelotti shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eric Soned showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Wim Wilmes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Soned having to interfere. Wim Wilmes took the ball and in the 69 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eric Soned. Eric Soned dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Henning Ekström was substituted for Valentin Elg. Eric Soned made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Wim Wilmes sent off a good shot on target. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Juninho Pernambucano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's supporters rose to their feet, but Juninho Pernambucano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnout Reekers breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free with the goalkeeper in the 80th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Eric Soned could save by the left post. A collision led to Étoile Sportive Du Sahel getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Morgan Möllgren hit a great ball. With a little luck, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Eric Soned got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Eric Soned made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a free kick in the 96th minute. The Étoile Sportive Du Sahel players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
