Chris Mergenthaler charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Chris Mergenthaler the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 37th match minute, Germany was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chris Mergenthaler to maneuver through the defense. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. Tommy Kahn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kevin Newman, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. After having played for 67 minutes, Albin Holweck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Germany's supporters crossed their fingers, but Albin Holweck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Frank Sachs scored 1-1 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Norberto Renteria, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Stef Mol hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
