The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Chris Nygaard got free with Thomas Ravelli in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Keld Paulsen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michael Forss, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 16 minutes, Thomas Ravelli successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chris Nygaard couldn't finish the play. In the 30th minute Tomas Dahlqvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Keld Paulsen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thomas Ravelli made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Chris Nygaard sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Chris Nygaard during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Chris Nygaard kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. Denmark's Keld Paulsen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gunnar Nordahl in the 42nd minute of play. Chris Nygaard received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Thomas Ravelli came out and tried to block the shot, but Chris Nygaard slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 47th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Dahlqvist stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Denmark's Mathias Ludvigsen got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After 53 played minutes La vecchia signora got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Dahlqvist. The audience was convinced that Chris Nygaard's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Thomas Ravelli was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. In the 62nd minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomas Ravelli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Kenn Skou fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Denmark's protests and gave Kenn Skou a yellow card for diving instead. Thomas Ravelli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The throw-in from Svante Vestlund in the 95th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Denmark's Olav Graversen.
