In the 20th minute, Guararapes's Vinicio Bermudo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-0. In the 23rd minute, Maicon Campidelis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Gijsbert ter Kruimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 27 minutes into the game, Maicon Campidelis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Guararapes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Netherlands the free kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vinicio Bermudo was the one to do the kick off. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristiano Lago in the 51st minute of the match.
