With a little luck, Hungary's Fodor Daniel got control of the ball when Laércio de Andrade tried to sneak it across the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

56 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hungary's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Israel Aballe was slow to take the kick. During this time Internacional's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Internacional's corner Israel Aballe fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fodor Daniel quite easily take care of the ball. Internacional's Geronimo Rulli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Takacs Tibor in the 57th minute of play. After 60 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Hungary! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Laércio de Andrade in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fodor Daniel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 72nd minute of the match, Antal Valentin got a very nice opportunity to score, but Geronimo Rulli was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 76 minutes, Zigor Abeita mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Internacional and the Hungary players grew even worse after the yellow card. Internacional made a substitution. Ege Deniz replaced Rafael Abarca. A collision led to Internacional getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Zigor Abeita hit a great ball. Hungary's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. In the 85th match minute, Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Michael Laudrup to maneuver through the defense. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hungary's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Internacional had won, even though Hungary had held more of the ball.
