A collision led to Portugal getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Daniel Pimentel hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Quilino Talavera in the 15th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felipe Barreto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Felipe Barreto might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jairo Morientes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Felipe Barreto ran back to his position shaking his head. Jairo Morientes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felipe Barreto in the 27th minute of play. In the 29th minute, Quilino Talavera got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jairo Morientes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Faustino Almeida, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Viriato Moura made a kick off. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-5 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
