Arnout Reekers made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Mohamed Basso sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bas Tuitert during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Bas Tuitert hit a great ball. 19 minutes into the match, Mohamed Basso notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Netherlands's Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 23 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Pan Zhi Peng came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Capibaribe Stars was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pan Zhi Peng didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

In the 76th match minute, Capibaribe Stars was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lothar Matthäus to maneuver through the defense. Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Gustaaf Groeneveldt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mohamed Basso in the 92nd minute of play. Many of Netherlands's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Netherlands may have spent more time on the ball, but Capibaribe Stars were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
