After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Wim Wilmes managed to get in a good position for a shot. When Gustaaf Groeneveldt came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Netherlands fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gustaaf Groeneveldt couldn't finish the play. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zheng Li Ling in the 45th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dendi Ishutin in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnout Reekers saved Netherlands from getting behind. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dendi Ishutin to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jose Murillo in the 53rd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Netherlands would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
