The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. It was a penalty for Netherlands! Herberto Caiado walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Francisco Infante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 28th minute of the match. 32 minutes into the game, Mathijn Doctor was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Netherlands's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lima Team the free kick. Manfred Schonath's late challenge caught a Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Manfred Schonath helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Lima Team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manfred Schonath didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gustaaf Groeneveldt stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Francisco Infante made a huge save. In the 55th minute, Lars Meesters ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Francisco Infante was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Francisco Infante in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 61 minutes into the game, Gustaaf Groeneveldt recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Francisco Infante. Gustaaf Groeneveldt showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. In the 89th match minute, Lima Team was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Cunha to maneuver through the defense. 91 minutes into the match, Lima Team's goalkeeper Francisco Infante had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wim Wilmes. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Netherlands walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
