After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Egbert Nijveldt got a free kick in the 42nd minute. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mustafa Barış Yorangil made a kick off. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Lars Meesters put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Emil Arendarski. In the 70th minute Ulises Bernad shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 73 minutes, Wim Wilmes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wim Wilmes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. C. A. Potrero's Emil Arendarski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save C. A. Potrero from getting a goal against them. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, C. A. Potrero's Emil Arendarski got control of the ball when Wim Wilmes tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Netherlands supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Netherlands would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
