Folke Björkdal was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After the first half Hungary were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Major Barna put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Folke Björkdal. Folke Björkdal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Major Barna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Antal Valentin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wolverhampton made a substitution. Sven-Ove Askestät replaced Patrik Lingren. The audience was convinced that Sven-Ove Askestät's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fodor Daniel was relentless in the 68th minute of the game.
