The ball had pretty good speed, but Tommy Kahn firmly grabbed it by the left post. When Chris Mergenthaler fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Germany's protests and gave Chris Mergenthaler a yellow card for diving instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Amerigo Pugliese managed to get in a good position for a shot. ternana calcio fc's supporters rose to their feet, but Amerigo Pugliese was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Kahn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ennio Bosso was extremely unlucky when he, in the 48th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Amerigo Pugliese was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ennio Bosso in the 53rd minute of play forced Germany's goalkeeper Tommy Kahn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 85 minutes, Albin Holweck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Germany's supporters crossed their fingers, but Albin Holweck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alvaro Cara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Tommy Kahn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Amerigo Pugliese scored 3-1 in the 91st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tommy Kahn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Anfilogino Pasquino kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match.
