Cláudio Taffarel came out of the goal and Siricio Liotta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cláudio Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Siricio Liotta in the 12th minute of play. Italy were awarded a corner in the 13th minute after AKÇEŞMESPOR's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Sigfrido Auletta took the corner. Eliseo Cutri made a great header on Italy's corner, it was just that AKÇEŞMESPOR's Cláudio Taffarel managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind AKÇEŞMESPOR's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Flavio Vittori was left in no man's land by his defense there! Siricio Liotta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Cláudio Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gogo Chuse hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Cláudio Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zaccheo Andolina in the 42nd minute of the match. In the 45th minute Siricio Liotta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 48th minute of the match Italy got a corner. AKÇEŞMESPOR's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sigfrido Auletta ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 50th minute, Zaccheo Andolina made a precise shot to the right of Cláudio Taffarel. AKÇEŞMESPOR's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zaccheo Andolina to make the kick off.
