The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Hungary's Fodor Daniel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vergil Rupov in the 3rd minute of play. Takacs Tibor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Takacs Tibor kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. Suat Kaya kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Major Barna in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jannes Van Leempoel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Major Barna, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Suat Kaya who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 21stth minute tested the skills of Fodor Daniel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Fodor Daniel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ariel Paris in the 22nd minute. Genk's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Loui Wouqier in the 23rd minute. After taking down the ball on Genk's corner Loui Wouqier fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fodor Daniel quite easily take care of the ball. Fodor Daniel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vergil Rupov in the 25th minute of the match. Loui Wouqier's late challenge caught a Hungary's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Loui Wouqier helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th minute, Loui Wouqier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 28 played minutes Genk got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Klemensson. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Major Barna, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Vergil Rupov scored 1-0 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fodor Daniel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antal Valentin in the 38th minute of play forced Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hungary's Fodor Daniel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vergil Rupov in the 40th minute of play. In the 48th minute of the game, Balazs Lajos landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Alfons Rijniers charged in rather forcefully in the 48th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alfons Rijniers the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Hungary's Balazs Norbert was substituted for Balazs Lajos. Alfons Rijniers hit a great freekick 49 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Hungary's Antal Valentin got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. During the 59th minute of the match Loui Wouqier completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Loui Wouqier a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 60th minute, Loui Wouqier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the match, Antal Valentin sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Jannes Van Leempoel threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Antal Valentin this time. 63 minutes into the match, Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Antal Valentin. If Antal Valentin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Genk's Diego Deswarte was substituted for Thomas-Jan Van de Weijer. After 77 played minutes Genk got a freekick which was hit by Ariel Paris. A collision led to Hungary getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Balazs Norbert hit a great ball. Antal Valentin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jannes Van Leempoel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Major Barna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 96 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Suat Kaya came free, but Fodor Daniel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Genk players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
