Atlético de Sagunto's Loren Prats played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wim Wilmes in the 25th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Loren Prats narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Vidal Vazquez was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 61 minutes into the match. Atlético de Sagunto's Xuan Casillas was substituted for Apolinar Figueroa. In the 61st minute, one of Atlético de Sagunto:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. Loren Prats came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 79th minute after Atlético de Sagunto's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. The corner ended in Gijsbert ter Kruimer almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Atlético de Sagunto's Loren Prats did a great save. Bas Tuitert kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. Netherlands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
