The audience thought a goal was coming when Ivan Copil got free with Arnout Reekers in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 13 minutes, Ivan Copil took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Arnout Reekers to make any attempt to save it. In the 19th minute, Wim Wilmes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cecilio Jax was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Netherlands from getting a goal against them. Cecilio Jax made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 31st minute of play. Luciano Selmo took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. 37 minutes into the match, San Martin de Tucuman's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Cecilio Jax reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wim Wilmes struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Cecilio Jax didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Cecilio Jax showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 45th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ivan Copil to strike the kick off in the second half. Cecilio Jax made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 51st minute of play. Luciano Selmo hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in San Martin de Tucuman's zone, Gijsbert ter Kruimer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cecilio Jax came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 59th minute of the match, Lars Meesters tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Cecilio Jax saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 60 minutes San Martin de Tucuman's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gijsbert ter Kruimer who took care of the corner kick. In the 65th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egbert Nijveldt to maneuver through the defense. Paulino Lamberto struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Arnout Reekers didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for San Martin de Tucuman. The crowd rose to their feet as Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Cecilio Jax. That made the score 2-4 after 68 minutes of play. In the 71st minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cecilio Jax saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 72nd minute of play forced San Martin de Tucuman's goalkeeper Cecilio Jax to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of San Martin de Tucuman booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gustaaf Groeneveldt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivan Copil, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 80 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Paulino Lamberto came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulino Lamberto in the 84th minute of play. Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luciano Selmo, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. If Gijsbert ter Kruimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
