In the 31st minute, Egbert Nijveldt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arnout Reekers made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Çetin Kantürk sent off a good shot on target. 42 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marco Verratti. 43 minutes into the match, Wim Wilmes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Helmuth Duckadam. FC Ruscova's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wim Wilmes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Helmuth Duckadam having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
