When Jairo Madureira came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the SORRISO E. C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jairo Madureira couldn't finish the play. Artur Branco scored 0-1 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Antônio Carlos Cavalcante, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when SORRISO E. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cássio Borges didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 15 played minutes, Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Edvaldo Leal came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palestra do Interior reached it. With his leg Edvaldo Leal managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 18 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Jairo Madureira. When Artur Branco fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SORRISO E. C.'s protests and gave Artur Branco a yellow card for diving instead. Edvaldo Leal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronaldo Pirani in the 22nd minute of play. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Queirós in the 27th minute of the match. If Júlio Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Jairo Madureira managed to get in a good position for a shot. SORRISO E. C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Jairo Madureira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Doni Pimenta hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Júlio Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antônio Carlos Cavalcante having to interfere. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nelsinho Marinho to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Doni Pimenta during the 58th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cássio Borges to maneuver through the defense. Nelsinho Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Edvaldo Leal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 65 minutes into the match, Joaquim Queirós notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Artur Branco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. Delfim Quintal took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 75th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Edvaldo Leal. SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ronaldo Pirani in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edvaldo Leal saved SORRISO E. C. from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Palestra do Interior's Sérgio Cruz got a free kick in the 83rd minute. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante was a little too slow when Joaquim Queirós got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 92nd minute. The score was now 0-4. In the 97th minute, Doni Pimenta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. SORRISO E. C.'s fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
