An unexpectedly hard shot by Pan Cheng Feng in the 44th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Siim Übi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer went, in the 46th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score.

Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pan Cheng Feng in the 52nd minute of play. If Lars Meesters had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Siim Übi threw himself towards the right post 59 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Wim Wilmes, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Wim Wilmes advanced and headed the ball into goal, 1-5 in the 90th minute. 95 minutes into the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Siim Übi, 1-6. Netherlands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
