The audience thought a goal was coming when Radu Fetea got free with Wilson Amorim in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Viriato Moura in the 11th minute of play forced Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Eric Soned to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Portugal's Wilson Amorim got control of the ball when Radu Fetea tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some careless play in the Portugal defense, Jim Njurenius kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wilson Amorim. The Portugal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wilson Amorim should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juninho Pernambucano in the 25th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 32 minutes had been played when some careless play by Portugal's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Radu Fetea to make the kick off. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's supporters rose to their feet, but Radu Fetea was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilson Amorim breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Juninho Pernambucano blasted a shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wilson Amorim having to make a save.
