An unexpectedly hard shot by Zaccheo Andolina in the 30th minute of play forced União Sport Clube Paredes's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 32nd minute, Zaccheo Andolina left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Italy fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Lourenço Gomes made in the 35th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Italy's Siricio Liotta. Italy's supporters rose to their feet, but Siricio Liotta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Flavio Vittori was a little too slow when Roman Quilo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 43rd minute. The score was now 1-3. In the 47th minute, União Sport Clube Paredes's Jerónimo Furtado dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-3. After the first half Italy were leading 2-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jerónimo Furtado stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Zaccheo Andolina's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edwin van der Sar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. In the 68th minute of the match Italy got a corner. União Sport Clube Paredes's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sigfrido Auletta ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Italy's corner Sigfrido Auletta fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Edwin van der Sar quite easily take care of the ball. Flavio Vittori showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jerónimo Furtado in the 71st minute of the match. After 93 minutes of play, União Sport Clube Paredes's Jerónimo Furtado made it 3-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Flavio Vittori was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet as Adriano Curto kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Edwin van der Sar. That made the score 3-6 in the 96 minute of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Italy eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
