Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nilmar de Moraes, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Clube Atl. Taquaritinga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Délio Coutinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arnout Reekers made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Nilmar de Moraes sent off a good shot on target. After having played for 54 minutes, Lars Meesters managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lars Meesters was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Haroldo Dante in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Netherlands's Lars Meesters was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Haroldo Dante in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After taking down the ball on Netherlands's corner Lars Meesters fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Haroldo Dante quite easily take care of the ball. Taquaritinga defense, Gustaaf Groeneveldt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Haroldo Dante. The Clube Atl. Taquaritinga fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Haroldo Dante should have stopped the shot. If Breno Loyola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. In the 97th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Netherlands had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
