In the 4th minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gustaaf Groeneveldt scored 0-1 in the 8th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Laureano Coelho, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Nascente do Leça was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Basílio Póvoas didn't get a good kick on the ball. 13 minutes into the match, Nascente do Leça's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Laureano Coelho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Wim Wilmes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Laureano Coelho was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 17 played minutes Nascente do Leça got a freekick which was hit by Almiro Peixoto. 18 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Laureano Coelho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the Nascente do Leça defense, Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laureano Coelho. The Nascente do Leça fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Laureano Coelho should have stopped the shot. 28 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Laureano Coelho was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Laureano Coelho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 32nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 35th minute of play forced Nascente do Leça's goalkeeper Laureano Coelho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Nascente do Leça's zone, Gijsbert ter Kruimer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Laureano Coelho came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wim Wilmes blasted a shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Laureano Coelho having to make a save. After some careless play in the Nascente do Leça defense, Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laureano Coelho. The Nascente do Leça fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Laureano Coelho should have stopped the shot. In the 44th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bas Tuitert to maneuver through the defense. Gijsbert ter Kruimer struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Laureano Coelho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-6 lead.

In the 51st minute, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-7. 54 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Laureano Coelho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 71 minutes, Gijsbert ter Kruimer took a quick shot and it went in 0-10 without a chance for Laureano Coelho to make any attempt to save it. In the 74th play minute David Eikelkamp came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Laureano Coelho. 0-11. 79 minutes into the game, Gustaaf Groeneveldt cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-12. Laureano Coelho was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Laureano Coelho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 85 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Laureano Coelho. Wim Wilmes showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-13. In the 89th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-14.
