Jens Lehmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chris Nygaard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Bjarne Kirkegaard fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Denmark's protests and gave Bjarne Kirkegaard a yellow card for diving instead. In the 6th minute, Bjarne Kirkegaard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zacarias Santiago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Keld Paulsen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Keld Paulsen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Avelino Aires in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zacarias Santiago in the 15th minute of play forced Denmark's goalkeeper Keld Paulsen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th match minute, Vile FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Isac Neto to maneuver through the defense. 24 minutes had been played when some careless play by Vile FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Chris Nygaard was slow to take the kick. During this time Denmark's players had a chance to rest. 26 minutes into the match, Vile FC's goal looked a bit too open when Chris Nygaard came free, but Jens Lehmann reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 33rd minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jens Lehmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Chris Nygaard in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jens Lehmann prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Lars Steen fell near the penalty area in the 45th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Denmark's protests and gave Lars Steen a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Denmark getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Lars Steen hit a great ball. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vile FC's goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 47th match minute, Vile FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elias Barroso to maneuver through the defense.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Avelino Aires stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Denmark's Kenn Skou got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Keld Paulsen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Avelino Aires, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Avelino Aires couldn't finish the play. Keld Paulsen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zacarias Santiago in the 63rd minute of play. Lars Steen hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Keld Paulsen didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zacarias Santiago went, in the 66th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, Denmark's Olav Graversen got a free kick in the 70th minute. In the 72nd minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jens Lehmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 77 minutes, Lars Steen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Denmark's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lars Steen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Avelino Aires managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vile FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Avelino Aires was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Keld Paulsen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 80 minutes, José Fraga mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vile FC and the Denmark players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Denmark booed when Vile FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Fraga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bertram Svenningsen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jens Lehmann having to interfere. Avelino Aires scored 2-1 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Keld Paulsen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Elias Barroso fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vile FC's protests and gave Elias Barroso a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Denmark booed when Vile FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elias Barroso didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, Denmark's Jens Lehmann threw himself towards the right post 96 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Chris Nygaard, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Denmark's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
