Óscar Cordoba didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Fc Schönhagen. Fc Schönhagen's Loris Groß got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Óscar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Kai Frei sent off a good shot on target. Óscar Cordoba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Loris Groß in the 24th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Loris Groß got free with Óscar Cordoba in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Loris Groß in the 28th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Loris Groß in the 46th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Loris Groß stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto was substituted for Denis Bonadona. 72 minutes into the game, Esteban Ekaitz threw the ball into play from the sideline. Fc Schönhagen's Rouven Bernhauer quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Loris Groß, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Loris Groß's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Óscar Cordoba read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. If Loris Groß had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 86th minute Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner. Saturnino Curcio went to the cornerflag to take it. Mario Zanabria was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. The audience was convinced that Loris Groß's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Óscar Cordoba was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. Sporting de Gijón's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
