In the 14th minute Jakub Swierczok shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Fernendo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Black horses's goalkeeper Valdis Felbergs, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Valdis Felbergs made an important save on a dangerous shot by Saturnino Curcio in the 18th minute. Valdis Felbergs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dante Fernendo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cipriano Sauveur's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Diego Maradona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Valdis Felbergs tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Black horses's zone, Alejandro Rufo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valdis Felbergs came out of the goal and Alejandro Rufo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cipriano Sauveur in the 33rd minute of play. Dante Fernendo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cipriano Sauveur, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Valdis Felbergs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Saturnino Curcio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Black horses getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Atso Joenväärä hit a great ball. Esteban Ekaitz kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Carolo Ovando replaced Denis Bonadona.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matias Bilintx to make the kick off. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Niceto Dominix hit a great ball. Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. Valdis Felbergs stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matias Bilintx's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. Saturnino Curcio ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Saturnino Curcio got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Valdis Felbergs quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. If Jakub Swierczok had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 86th minute the ball was on its way in behind Black horses's goalkeeper Valdis Felbergs, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 87 minutes into the match, Black horses's Joakim Kämpe sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dante Fernendo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 88 minutes Sporting de Gijón's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jakub Swierczok who took care of the corner kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Sporting de Gijón's goalie and right to Atso Joenväärä. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Sporting de Gijón's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Cipriano Sauveur sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Valdis Felbergs made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 93rd minute of play. Atso Joenvääräs short, quick shot in the 98thth minute got Dante Fernendo to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The Sporting de Gijón support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
