Denis Bonadona hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Dante Fernendo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Svante Bäckman in the 10th minute of play. Dante Fernendo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gottfrid Brenner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 11th minute Gottfrid Brenner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Fernendo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Sune Dahlberg managed to get in a good position for a shot. LA VIOLA's supporters rose to their feet, but Sune Dahlberg was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dante Fernendo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, LA VIOLA's Felix Martinsson got control of the ball when Matias Bilintx tried to sneak it across the goal line. 29 minutes into the match, LA VIOLA's goalkeeper Felix Martinsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Matias Bilintx. After 31 played minutes LA VIOLA got a freekick which was hit by Gottfrid Brenner. Denis Bonadona received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Felix Martinsson came out and tried to block the shot, but Denis Bonadona slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 40th minute. After 43 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Constantino Nuno. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Rune Fanström got a free kick in the 46th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

56 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Kenny Högberg came free, but Dante Fernendo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dante Fernendo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albert Rutledge in the 58th minute of play. After having played for 62 minutes, Saturnino Curcio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting de Gijón's supporters crossed their fingers, but Saturnino Curcio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Felix Martinsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alejandro Rufo, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. When Sporting de Gijón's Alejandro Rufo, in the 65th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Sporting de Gijón. LA VIOLA's Stig-Åke Broberg was substituted for Svante Bäckman. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Mario Zanabria replaced Alejandro Rufo. Felix Martinsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mario Zanabria, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Esteban Ekaitz hit a great ball. In the 84th minute, Diego Maradona ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Felix Martinsson was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the 93rd minute, Rune Fanström hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sporting de Gijón fans cheered their team off the field, for while LA VIOLA had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
