Cláudio Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bebeto Sarmento in the 12th minute of the match. The supporters of PORTUGUESA-RJ booed when Academia Santista CIMZ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruy Motta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 19th minute Felipe Portalupi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Loramendi Cabarcos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.
