Arnout Reekers was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Uwe Reimann showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 7 minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in OLIMPIA SP's zone, Wim Wilmes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Inge Marin came out of the goal and Wim Wilmes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 12th minute Fernando Gomes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcinho de Toledo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 19 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Wim Wilmes. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Netherlands from getting a goal against them. In the 22nd match minute, OLIMPIA SP was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ermegildo Benitez to maneuver through the defense. Gijsbert ter Kruimer blasted a shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Inge Marin having to make a save. Inge Marin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Uwe Reimann got free with Arnout Reekers in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 47th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egbert Nijveldt to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcinho de Toledo to make the kick off. OLIMPIA SP's Inge Marin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save OLIMPIA SP from getting a goal against them. Gijsbert ter Kruimer received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Inge Marin came out and tried to block the shot, but Gijsbert ter Kruimer slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 55th minute. In the 58th minute, David Eikelkamp got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Inge Marin came out and tried to block the shot, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 61st minute. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Gomes in the 65th minute of play. In the 69th minute Uwe Reimann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcinho de Toledo in the 82nd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wim Wilmes got free with Inge Marin in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Uwe Reimann in the 86th minute of play. Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Netherlands players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
