If Marcos Monsanto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leal Simões made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dabi Saens in the 22nd minute of play. Paio York took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Edwin van der Sar. After a defensive mix-up in União Sport Clube Paredes's zone, Marcos Monsanto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edwin van der Sar came out of the goal and Marcos Monsanto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Leal Simões didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jerónimo Furtado went, in the 61st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Edwin van der Sar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paio York in the 64th minute of the match. Marcos Monsanto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edwin van der Sar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcos Monsanto in the 69th minute of play forced União Sport Clube Paredes's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
