Melquiades Gaztea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bruno Ekialde, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 45th minute, Carolo Goi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Narciso Tano to make the kick off.
