Hedemora's supporters rose to their feet, but Björn Åhlberg was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Romeu Batista breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marc Skager in the 16th minute of play forced Esporte Clube Zeus's goalkeeper Romeu Batista to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 17 minutes, Aílton Varela mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Esporte Clube Zeus and the Hedemora players grew even worse after the yellow card. Romeu Batista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Björn Åhlberg in the 40th minute of the match. In the 41st minute, Björn Åhlberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tião Baiano got free with Bengt-Rune Petersson in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Luizinho da Cunha made a kick off. Romeu Batista made an important save on a dangerous shot by Björn Åhlberg in the 56th minute. In the 57th match minute, Hedemora was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Björn Åhlberg to maneuver through the defense. In the 59th minute Per-Oskar Hellström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romeu Batista saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hannes Hammarbäck hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Esporte Clube Zeus's Romeu Batista got control of the ball when Björn Åhlberg tried to sneak it across the goal line.
