When the match had gone on for 27 minutes, Luiz Guilherme Paraense put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Sérgio de Azevedo. After a defensive mix-up in SAS's zone, Silas Arantes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edvaldo Brasil came out of the goal and Silas Arantes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 89th minute Júlio Saraiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sérgio de Azevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
