The referee showed Toninho Prestes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Toninho Prestes hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Baltazar Nascimento scored 1-1 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zeca Santos, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Wellington Phoenix's Zeca Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baltazar Nascimento in the 37th minute of play. After 38 minutes, Conrado Quadros mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Wellington Phoenix and the Primatas FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Wellington Phoenix getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Conrado Quadros hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Wellington Phoenix's Mazinho Baptista got a free kick in the 46th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

With a little luck, Wellington Phoenix's Zeca Santos got control of the ball when Emerson Barreto tried to sneak it across the goal line. Wellington Phoenix made a substitution. Zeca Santos was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. 91 minutes into the match, Baltazar Nascimento had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Zeca Santos. Wellington Phoenix's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Baltazar Nascimento was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-5. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Primatas FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
