In the 6th minute, Natalio Laurin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Cachiyuyo EAS's zone, Conrado Quadros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cecilio Refugio came out of the goal and Conrado Quadros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 13 minutes into the match, Cachiyuyo EAS's goalkeeper Cecilio Refugio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nilmar Linhares. Cecilio Refugio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gustavo Sabóia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Cachiyuyo EAS getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Arnoldo Weterio hit a great ball. The supporters of Cachiyuyo EAS booed when Wellington Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juarês Ceresso didn't get a good kick on the ball. 25 minutes into the match, Cachiyuyo EAS's Amadeo Justin broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 29th minute of the match Arnoldo Weterio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Zeca Santos showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 33 minutes, Alberto Calvino mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cachiyuyo EAS and the Wellington Phoenix players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 33rd minute, Alberto Calvino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 40 played minutes Cachiyuyo EAS got a freekick which was hit by Augusto Aresti. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Nilmar Linhares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cecilio Refugio having to interfere. In the 58th minute, Juarês Ceresso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 60th minute, Cachiyuyo EAS's Natalio Laurin ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Zeca Santos. Zeca Santos yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. 65 minutes into the match, Cachiyuyo EAS's goal looked a bit too open when Nilmar Linhares came free, but Cecilio Refugio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th minute, Melchor Calixto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wellington Phoenix made a substitution. Wesley Phoenix replaced Mazinho Baptista. In the 68th match minute, Cachiyuyo EAS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Melchor Calixto to maneuver through the defense. Walmyr Freitas's late challenge caught a Cachiyuyo EAS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Walmyr Freitas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 73rd minute, Cachiyuyo EAS's Natalio Laurin dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. After 77 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Cachiyuyo EAS! Gustavo Zonta shot the penalty kick right outside the post. 81 minutes into the match, Conrado Quadros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cecilio Refugio. Cachiyuyo EAS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Conrado Quadros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Arnoldo Weterio struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Zeca Santos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cachiyuyo EAS. Nilmar Linhares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cecilio Refugio having to interfere. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
