An unexpectedly hard shot by Alex Paulista in the 2nd minute of play forced Fabiofs's goalkeeper Rafa Cordeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gustavo Zonta charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gustavo Zonta the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Nilmar Linhares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 7th minute of the match, but Rafa Cordeiro made a huge save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nilmar Linhares in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rafa Cordeiro saved Fabiofs from getting behind. Rafa Cordeiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conrado Quadros in the 8th minute of play. André Pontes hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. In the 17th minute of the game Nilmar Linhares made a throw-in which Conrado Quadros played forward. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nilmar Linhares got free with Rafa Cordeiro in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conrado Quadros in the 25th minute of play forced Fabiofs's goalkeeper Rafa Cordeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 26th minute, Mazinho Baptista left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Wellington Phoenix fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. In the 32nd match minute, Fabiofs was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by André Pontes to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nilmar Linhares got free with Rafa Cordeiro in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With 38 minutes on the clock, André Pontes commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. André Pontes hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Fabiofs's Rafa Cordeiro got control of the ball when Amadeu Maranhense tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rafa Cordeiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Conrado Quadros in the 46th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nilmar Linhares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes Fabiofs's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Amadeu Maranhense who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Gustavo Sabóia managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 59th minute, Amadeu Maranhense made a precise shot to the right of Rafa Cordeiro. Fabiofs's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. In the 62nd minute, Alex Paulista got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 67th minute, Nilmar Linhares made a precise shot to the right of Rafa Cordeiro. Fabiofs's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. Rafa Cordeiro didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nilmar Linhares went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-2 was the resulting score. Rafa Cordeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mazinho Baptista, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. 76 minutes into the match, Conrado Quadros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rafa Cordeiro. Fabiofs's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Conrado Quadros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Evandro Félix got free with Zeca Santos in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Amadeu Maranhense's late challenge caught a Fabiofs's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Amadeu Maranhense helped the player get up and apologised. In the 80th minute, Amadeu Maranhense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rafa Cordeiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conrado Quadros in the 84th minute of play. 87 minutes into the match, Fabiofs's goal looked a bit too open when Amadeu Maranhense came free, but Rafa Cordeiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rafa Cordeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nilmar Linhares, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Daniel Lago could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Zeca Santos made a huge save. Zeca Santos came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Fabiofs's Daniel Lago. But to his dismay, Daniel Lago quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-3. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Wellington Phoenix had won after a very even match.
