Lapachito's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Amadeu Maranhense ran over to the corner to take the kick. When the match clock showed 35 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Nilmar Linhares sped through Lapachito's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Eulalio Casado. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nilmar Linhares in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eulalio Casado saved Lapachito from getting behind. Alex Paulista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eulalio Casado having to interfere. Jesus Tiso's late challenge caught a Wellington Phoenix's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jesus Tiso helped the player get up and apologised. In the 61st match minute, Wellington Phoenix was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mazinho Baptista to maneuver through the defense. In the 66th minute Alex Paulista shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eulalio Casado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nilmar Linhares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Eulalio Casado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 74thth minute of the game Nilmar Linhares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lapachito's Eulalio Casado was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 76 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's goalkeeper Zeca Santos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jesus Tiso. A collision led to Wellington Phoenix getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Mazinho Baptista hit a great ball. Zacarias Maties hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. In the 91st minute of the match Amadeu Maranhense shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Eulalio Casado showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
